Many brides think it’s unnecessary to have a wedding photographer and a wedding videographer. But not hiring a wedding videographer is one of the biggest regrets I hear couples have about their wedding day. A wedding video is a way for you to relive and share the sounds, sights, and emotions of your wedding day with future generations. Including a wedding photographer and a wedding videographer is the best way to have a complete memory of your wedding day.
Benefits of Hiring a Wedding Videographer
It may seem like hiring wedding professionals to assist you on your wedding day isn’t a necessity. Whether it’s your florist or a calligrapher, their experience and expertise is invaluable. They understand how to capture those special moments of your wedding day so you can enjoy them for years to come. I get that weddings are a big investment and there are lots of details to account for. Understanding what a professional wedding videographer does ensures you set up your wedding budget appropriately.
Importance of Working with a Wedding Videographer
A wedding videographer captures the sounds and movement that a photo can’t. You can see your grandmother’s reaction to your vows, listen to your mom’s laughter during the toasts, and hear your groom speak his vows. There’s so much emotion on the wedding day that you can’t see it all. Hiring a wedding videographer gives you the opportunity to catch all those little moments you might have missed.
I’m thrilled to have Lindsay and Scott of Revelations Video on the blog to chat about wedding videography.
01. Tell me a little about you and the story behind Revelations Video.
Scott and I have been filming and editing since we were little kids, as a hobby on the side. I consistently filmed events for friends and family and Scott was actually a producer on a news team when he was in high school.
When we got married, we didn’t do our research when we were looking for a videographer. The guy we hired didn’t capture anything that was important to us. He wasn’t professional, and we couldn’t even hear our vows in the video, which was upsetting. A few days later, I looked at Scott and said “we could have made a video better than that. Why don’t we go out and film for other couples so that no one else has to lose their precious memories like we did?!” He surprised me when he said without a doubt “Sure! Let’s dive in!” and the rest was history.
02. What got you started doing wedding videography?
We filmed our first few weddings for free, so we could get a feel for it. When we saw how much we enjoyed it and that our couples were happy with what we created, we kept growing.
03. What’s your favorite part about weddings?
We love capturing the bigger, deeper meaning behind a wedding day. Weddings are a perfect reflection of promises, hope, and pure joy. Not all couples see weddings the way we do, but we believe weddings are a reflection of God’s promises and love for His people. When we’re able to translate that into a video and show them how important wedding vows are, it’s breathtaking.
04. Why do you think hiring a wedding videographer is important?
Scott likes to say “a picture is worth a thousand words, but video footage is 60 pictures in one second”. There’s so much more emotion you can see in a video. You can see the reaction of a groom when he sees his bride for the first time and hear the meaningful ceremony message. It’s an incredible way to capture moments in time. Having a video gives you the chance to relive those cherished moments you spent with loved ones.
05. What are the benefits of hiring a professional videographer versus having a friend or family member shoot your video?
There’s a huge difference here. One of the main things you have when you hire a professional wedding videographer is professional sound equipment. Capturing the sound and music from your wedding day is essential for a high-quality quality video you’ll want to rewatch.
When you have a seasoned industry professional filming your wedding day, you can trust that they understand the general flow of a wedding day. They know where to be at when so no important moments are missed. Another benefit of working with a professional wedding videographer is being able to have multiple camera angles. This lets you see the bride walking down the aisle, her groom’s reaction, and her mom’s tears of joy from the pew at same time.
06. What is your process after a bride contacts you?
When a bride contacts us, we send her our wedding guide magazine. Then we’ll set up a time to talk, answer any questions, and get to know each other better.
07. What’s one piece of advice you would offer brides?
Enjoy being engaged! You’re only engaged once and it’s a special time that should be savored. Many brides get caught up in the stress of wedding planning and don’t take the time to enjoy this unique time in their lives.
08. When you aren’t shooting meaningful wedding videos, what do you like to do?
We love to find bizarre hole-in-the-wall restaurants and explore different karaoke bars. We love to randomly search for the cheapest flights at any given time, so we can see a new place for next to nothing. Scott loves to play pick-up football and basketball. I love to run, coach high school athletics, and group exercise classes.
Why Hiring a Wedding Videographer is Important
Hiring a wedding videographer allows you to relive the sights, sounds, and emotions of your wedding day in a truly unique way. Having a professional who has the experience and equipment ensures you have a high-quality film you’ll love rewatching for years to come. Thank you, Lindsay and Scott for sharing your insight about the benefits of hiring a wedding videographer.
